Arshad Adam Print E-mail

Arshad AdamArshad Adam is a founder and Finance Director of OWW Consulting in Malaysia and Singapore.

Arshad Adam is a Chartered Accountant who trained with Deloitte Touche. He is currently the Finance Director of OWW Consulting, a boutique consulting firm based in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. He also has to his credit a Masters in International Business Management with distinction from the University of Nottingham and a Bachelor in Business Administration with gold medal from the International Islamic University Malaysia.

At OWW, he is responsible for the set up and management of the Malaysian and Singaporean SRI Indexes for the firm under the “Responsibility” series of Indexes. He also specialises in analysing and comparing the different regional CSR reports against headquarters’ CSR reports for large multinationals with operations in Asia. His recent CSR consultancy work has assisted a major Malaysian conglomerate with the assessment and reporting of their CSR programmes to GRI standards and he has provided assistance to companies on sustainability management in the oil palm industry.

Before joining OWW, Arshad was Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Nottingham where he also held the post of Deputy Director of MA/MSc programmes for the Business School. He concurrently gained extensive training experience in training finance professionals in South East Asia during and before his tenure at the University of Nottingham.

Arshad also gained extended exposure in cost and outsourcing consulting work for French and Eastern African firms looking for supply solutions from South East Asia and China. This has allowed him to gain valuable international insights in working with many firms across three continents. Such supply chain consulting assignments involved many operational CSR issues that either had to be resolved before contracts could be signed or managed throughout the tenure of the supply contracts.

Arshad was a Member of the Financial and Management Accounting Committee of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) 1998 and 1999. This committee represents Malaysia at the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) in New York.

He was also and Appointed Member of the Internal Audit Committee of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) in 1998 and 1999, this committee is concerned with internal audit practices in Malaysia.

ImageChironjit was appointed Junior CSR Analyst in December 2007.

He was educated in Malaysia and Singapore, having been awarded a prestigious ASEAN Scholarship by the Government of Singapore in 2004/5. He is currently pursing his CIMA qualifications in Malaysia and is the assistant to OWW's Finance Director, Arshad Adam, FCCA.

Within OWW Consulting, Chironjit is a key part of our SRI Analysis Team and is also responsible in the management for the UN Global Compact Local Network Malaysia (Malaysia Compact) website.
 
Nurol Latif Print E-mail
Nurol LatifNurol Latif was appointed CSR Analyst in December 2007.

She is a BBA graduate of Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia majoring in International Business. Nurol also holds an Accounting Diploma from the same university. Her degree final thesis focused on Corporate Social Responsibility. In June 2007, she took a course in Fundraising and Communications with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) where she extended her knowledge in fundraising and charity awareness and widened her network among the NGOs.

Nurol trained under the Corporate Communications wing in Maxis Communications Berhad in which she assisted the Corporate Events and Sponsorship department. After graduating from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Nurol joined the Perdana Leadership Foundation. This organisation was founded by Malaysia's former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and focussed on disseminating, collecting and preserving the nation's leadership history. She served as the Communications and Publications executive for a year, where she was also the Deputy Editor for the Foundation's newsletter and the Public Relations personnel.

Nurol was involved in the Perdana Global Peace Forum in February 2007 and Merdeka 50: A Celebration of Malaysian Art exhibition in August 2007. She also was involved in several other events as part of the organising committee.

Within OWW Consulting, Nurol is a key part of our SRI Analysis Team and is also involved in web content management for CSR Malaysia.
 
Dr. Geoffrey Williams Print E-mail

Dr. Geoffrey Williams Dr Geoffrey Williams is a founder and Managing Director of OWW Consulting in Malaysia and Singapore. He has designed and directed numerous research projects for the UK Government (DTI), European Commission (DG-Research), and European Standards Agency, among others. He has also worked with private companies and charities including PA Consulting Group, leading UK law firm Allen & Overy, and the Wellcome Trust UK. He is a member of the EU Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI) CSR Committee.

Geoffrey has held academic positions at London Business School, Pembroke College University of Oxford and elsewhere. He has published extensively in leading academic journals worldwide.

He is an Associate Member of the Centre for Business, Organisations and Society, School of Management, University of Bath, United Kingdom and was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in 2004.

Geoffrey’s most recent research has focussed on Corporate Social Responsibility in a global context and in particular, on the factors that determine the success of CSR initiatives in different socio-political contexts. He has also published original research on the profile of SRI investors in a cross-country setting and the factors that determine the decision to invest in SRI products.

Geoffrey also has an active research interest in the development of practical management tools for the assessment and implementation of successful CSR systems within companies, which led to the development of the OWW Responsibility™ CSR Assessment Tool.

OWW Consulting has also established the first SRI Index in Malaysia and also the first SRI Index for Singapore.

His work has been published in leading academic journals including Oxford Review of Economic Policy, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organisation, Research Policy, Business Ethics: A European Review, Review of Income and Wealth, European Competition Law Review, Review of Financial Economics, Journal of Behavioral Finance, Journal of Macroeconomics, Information Economics and Policy, Applied Economics, Applied Financial Economics, International Review of Business and Economics.

His research output has had direct impact in the business world and has been covered in the media including the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, CNBC, the Edge (Malaysia) and the Sun newspaper in the UK.

His speaking events include the American Economic Association Meeting 2004 (San Diego), chair of a special session on culture and economics; the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) CSR Conference 2006 in KL; the MIA 2006 National Accountants' Conference in KL in a special session on CSR. He will be speaking on SRI at the major CSR Conference in KL on 1-2 March 2007 and at the International Institute for Research (IIR Middle East) CSR Summit 24-28 June 2007 in Dubai. He has also been invited to write a series of four articles on CSR for the Malaysian Institute of Management, the first of which, on Socially Responsible Investment, will appear in the April 2007 issue of their quarterly journal.

Luke Wood Print E-mail

Luke WoodLuke Wood is a founding member of OWW Consulting and was appointed Technical Director in June 2006.

He is an MBA graduate of Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) and has a BA(Hons) in Music from Kingston University, United Kingdom. His MBA dissertation on media piracy was awarded with distinction.

His professional experience is drawn from the music industry in the United Kingdom in which he worked in a variety of technical roles for a number of years.

He was involved in the design and creation of a digital music library of 700,000 commercial tracks. This music was used in a range of web-based commercial applications including digital jukeboxes. An investigative study was conducted in 2006 to establish the feasibility of expanding this business into Malaysia and Singapore. He has also investigated methods to combat the illegal exploitation of copyrighted music on the internet.

Luke has also worked in a variety of positions involving direct, practical music technology skills. His experience includes creating polyphonic ringtones for download and methods for recording and editing digital music, CD production and web-casting.

He has a strong background and understanding of business problems in high technology industries both from a practical and research perspective and has extensive experience of data collection and web-based surveying techniques.

Within OWW Consulting, Luke is responsible for the creation of research systems and processes, the design and implementation of surveys and the collation and analysis of survey data using web-based technologies.

 
Pernille Voigt Print E-mail
Pernille VoigtPernille is a Senior CSR Analyst and is in charge of our SRI Research Department.

She holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Copenhagen and MSc in International Business from Nottingham University Business School. Her dissertation focussed on  “Creating a CSR index for Malaysian Listed Companies”, which involved interviewing business leaders of large corporations in Malaysia to establish the weight of different CSR issues in the customisation of SRI Ratings in the Malaysian market. Within OWW she is responsible for the management and implementation of our SRI Ratings Research and liaison with our partners Vigeo in Paris.

Prior to her studies, Pernille owned and ran her own accountancy business focussing on management accountancy and the Danish taxation system.

Pernille has lived and worked in many countries including Denmark, England and Malaysia and in addition to her native Danish, she speaks English fluently and has a good knowledge of German and Bahasa Malaysia.
 
 

Newsflash

WITH Malaysia emerging as a regional leader in corporate social responsibility (CSR), it seems only right that it hosts an international conference on the issue.

"Malaysia is one of the leading countries in CSR, certainly among developing countries and in Southeast Asia," says OWW consulting managing director Dr Geoffrey Williams, "because CSR is part of the National Integrity Plan and the government-linked companies transformation programme."
